This past November I went to my hometown, Miami Beach, for a performance by the New World Symphony of my orchestral work, Gotham, a three-movement symphony that takes the city of New York as its subject. It is part of an ongoing project of ‘film symphonies’ that I am creating with filmmaker Bill Morrison to capture the aura of cities.

On January 30, 2015, Michael Tilson Thomas and the New World Symphony premiere the third installment in Gordon’s “city symphonies” for Miami, Florida, after Gotham (New York City) and Dystopia (Los Angeles).
Working in collaboration with filmmaker Bill Morrison, Gordon creates music with his own reflections for each city. Miami is special for Gordon — it is his hometown.
